2012 Ford Expedition Remote Head Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
I got a call from a woman parked near a shopping center in Downtown National City. She had a 2012 Ford Expedition and only one working key left. She wanted a spare before the inevitable happened, but she had already called the Ford dealer and the quote stopped her cold. She told me the number and I just said, come find a spot and I'll come to you.
When I pulled up, the Expedition was sitting in the lot and she was waiting by the driver door. The job was a standard remote head key duplication, cut and program on site. She watched me work the whole time, which I don't mind at all.
I cut the new key blade to match her vehicle, then connected to the OBD port and ran through the immobilizer enrollment sequence to register the new transponder chip alongside her existing key. Once that finished, I tested the blade in the ignition, confirmed the engine started and held, and then walked through all five buttons on the fob to make sure the remote functions came up correctly.
Total time from parking to handing her the new key was about 35 minutes.
She asked me at the end why the dealer wanted so much more. I told her honestly: the process isn't complicated on this generation of Ford, the tools exist outside the dealer network, and mobile means I have no shop overhead to pass along. She saved a good chunk and never had to schedule an appointment or move the car anywhere.
