2009 Ford Expedition Remote Head Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
She drove into La Mesa Village with a key that was basically held together by willpower. The shell had cracked along the pivot where the blade folds out, and the whole thing flexed when she turned the ignition. She said she was scared to use it because she didn't want to be stranded.
She had already called the Ford dealer. They told her she needed a full replacement key, programmed from scratch. She didn't push back because it sounded official. She just started looking for alternatives, which is how she found me.
When I got to her driveway, I opened the cracked shell right on the spot. The circuit board inside was clean, no corrosion, no damage. The transponder chip was seated fine. The remote buttons still had good contact. There was nothing wrong with the electronics at all. The shell was the problem, nothing else.
I transferred the internals into a new shell, verified the remote range on all three buttons, and cut a fresh blade to match her vehicle. The whole thing took about forty minutes, and she could watch every step.
She mentioned the dealer quote when I was packing up, kind of as an aside. She said she felt like she had been pointed toward the most expensive path when she didn't need to be. That part stuck with me. Sometimes the key just needs a new coat, not a whole new identity.
