2007 Ford Mustang Transponder Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
Up in Mt. Helix, I got a call from a guy who had snapped his key blade inside the ignition of his 2007 Mustang. Not bent, not stuck. Snapped clean, with the broken piece sitting down in the cylinder where you cannot grab it with fingers.
He had already called another locksmith who told him the cylinder would need to be drilled out and replaced entirely. New cylinder, new keys, a whole ordeal. He called me for a second opinion before agreeing to that.
I drove out to him on the hill and took a look. The fragment was in there but the wafer surfaces were untouched. I extracted the broken piece using a purpose-built extractor, slow and careful, without contacting the wafers. Once the fragment was clear, I decoded the lock by reading each wafer position directly. That gave me the exact cut depths for a new key, no original needed.
I cut a new blade to the decode, programmed the transponder chip through the OBD port, and tested it in both the ignition and the door.
The cylinder was never touched beyond what the extraction required. His lock works exactly as it did before. The other locksmith's plan would have left him with a new cylinder and a much larger bill. He got the same functional result without any of that.
