New 2011 Ford Mustang key fob when all keys lost from EZ Car Keyz Fallbrook CA
🔧 PRO TIP
The 2011 Mustang uses a remote head key, meaning the transponder chip and the remote buttons are built into one unit that goes into the ignition cylinder. It is not a proximity fob. It is not push-to-start. You turn it like a normal key. The factory fob carries the FCC ID on the back label and takes a CR2032. The 3-button layout covers lock, unlock, and panic. When owners lose a key on this generation, the vehicle security system still needs to learn the new transponder before the engine will run, but this is a well-documented procedure that does not require a dealer. One working key means adding a spare is relatively quick. Zero keys means all-keys-lost, which takes longer but is still doable on-site with the right equipment. Keep a spare cut and programmed. These keys do not last forever, and the cost difference between a spare-while-you-have-one and an all-keys-lost job is real.

2011 Ford Mustang Remote Head Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

A guy in Downtown Fallbrook called me on a Tuesday morning. He had a 2011 Mustang sitting in the parking lot behind the shops on Main Avenue and one dead remote head key. Not lost, just dead. He had already tried a new CR2032, the fob was clicking, and the doors were responding, but the car would crank and immediately shut off every single time.

He thought the battery swap had fixed it. The remote worked again, doors unlocked, everything felt normal. Then he turned the key and the engine died within a second of starting.

That is a pretty specific symptom. The remote side of the fob and the transponder side are two separate things sharing one key. The battery in the fob powers the buttons and the remote functions. The transponder chip is passive, no battery needed, but it still has to communicate with the immobilizer when the key is in the cylinder. When that communication fails or the key loses its programming link to the vehicle security system, you get exactly what he described: cranks, fires briefly, shuts off.

I pulled up behind his Mustang with my van. We went through it on-site. The blade was fine, the transponder was reading, but the key's link to the vehicle had dropped. Programmed a replacement remote head key to his car using the OBD port, verified the immobilizer handshake, and let him start it three times in a row while I watched the scan tool data to confirm it was holding.

He mentioned the dealer had told him the car would need to come in and they could not see it until Thursday. This was Tuesday. He had work Wednesday.

He drove to work that afternoon.

“They responded instantly, showed up within an hour, and arrived exactly when they said they would. Made a copy and programmed a fob for my 2014 car with a worn ignition in about 15 minutes. The new key works perfectly and feels like a dealer key.”

Ford Mustang Mobile Service FAQ

Real costs, no dealer surprises

What is the cheapest way to replace my 2011 Mustang key?
Call a mobile locksmith before you call the dealer. The dealer visit on a 2011 Mustang remote head key involves parts, programming labor, and often a wait for availability. You also have to get the car there if it does not start, which adds a tow. With EZ Car Keyz, I come to you in Fallbrook or Downtown Fallbrook, program the replacement on-site, and the price is a fraction of what the dealer route costs. No tow, no appointment backlog, no separate line items for the key and the programming. Call for current pricing because I will give you an actual number, not a range.
How much more does all-keys-lost cost compared to just adding a spare?
Do aftermarket keys work on a 2011 Mustang, or should I stick with OEM?
My 2011 Mustang starts and immediately stalls. The key fob buttons work fine. What is going on?
Can I program a second key myself at home on a 2011 Mustang?
