A guy near the Spring Valley Border had the kind of afternoon nobody plans for. He had been at a park off the east side of Lemon Grove with his 2009 Mustang, and somewhere between the car and the picnic area, his only key vanished. He checked his pockets, his bag, the ground twice. Nothing. By the time he called me he had already accepted that the car was not moving under its own power that day.

I picked the door using a Lishi tool for this lock profile, and while I was in there I decoded the wafer positions so I could cut a blade that matched the lock mechanically. That is the part most people do not think about: you do not always need a code on file if you can read the lock itself.

From there I connected through the OBD port and ran the all-keys-lost sequence for the immobilizer. That procedure clears every previously registered transponder from the vehicle's memory and enrolls the new key as the primary. The timed delay in the protocol is not optional, so we waited it out. When it finished, the key went in, the engine turned over, and that was that.

I cut him a second key before I packed up. He had come in with zero keys and left with two. The whole job was done in that same parking lot, no tow, no dealer appointment, no waiting until Monday.

He mentioned later that a friend had told him all-keys-lost jobs required the car to go to the dealer. That is one of the most common things I hear, and it is not true.
