Got a call from a college senior out at his apartment carport in North El Cajon. He'd dropped his only key on concrete and cracked the housing. Not the blade, just the bow, but it was enough that the key kept slipping out of his fingers and he was nervous about getting stranded entirely.

He looked at the cracked original and asked what would have happened if he'd kept using it. I told him the bow breaking off inside the ignition cylinder is a real possibility, and that's a much worse afternoon than calling a locksmith.
He saved a good chunk compared to what the dealer quoted, and he never left the complex.
