2013 Honda Accord Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
He landed from a red-eye, pulled his bag off the carousel, and walked out to the economy lot in Downtown La Mesa expecting a normal Tuesday morning drive home. Instead, he got nothing. Dead fob. No response from the door handles, no push-to-start acknowledgment, nothing.
He started problem-solving fast. Called the dealer. Earliest slot was Thursday. Called a tow company. They quoted him a number that made him wince, just to move the car two days early to a dealer that still wouldn't see it until Thursday. Then he found me and asked if I could come to an economy lot.
I was there inside 45 minutes.
The door situation gets interesting when a smart key battery dies all the way. The fob on these carries a small mechanical blade tucked inside for exactly this scenario. Once I walked him through getting it out of the fob and getting the door open, we were in business. I pulled up the key data through the OBD port and confirmed both his keys were still registered to the car. Nothing had dropped out of memory. The immobilizer hadn't thrown a fit. It was just a dead battery that had taken the wake signal with it.
CR2032 swap, confirmed both fobs communicating, tested start, tested all four buttons, tested handle response. Done.
He sat in the driver's seat for a second like he was waiting for something else to go wrong. It didn't. He was home before lunch. He mentioned the dealer quote plus the tow estimate on his way out, and I just nodded. That math does all the talking on its own.
