I got a call from a physical therapist in Downtown National City. She had a full patient schedule at her clinic and her 2016 Honda Accord was sitting dead in the parking lot. She had tried to swap the fob battery herself before her first appointment, and somewhere in that process things went sideways. Now the fob wasn't talking to the car at all. I reset the contact, reseated the battery correctly, and then plugged in through the OBD port to re-pair her existing fob and program a spare at the same time.
All five buttons came back on her original fob. I walked her through exactly what happened with the battery swap so it wouldn't catch her off guard again, set the spare on her passenger seat, and was packed up before her one o'clock patient walked through the door.
The dealer had quoted her a tow plus a half-day wait plus fees that were going to add up fast. She also would have had to clear her whole afternoon. None of that happened. The car never left the lot.
