I got a call from a guy in Winter Gardens, Lakeside. He'd just landed on a red-eye, walked out to the economy lot, and his 2020 Accord wouldn't respond to anything.
No door unlock, no push-to-start. Just a key-not-detected warning on the dash every time he held the fob near the start button. His bags were in the trunk. The trunk release wasn't responding either. He was standing in a parking lot at six in the morning with nowhere to go.

The mechanical emergency key built into the fob got the door open. Once I was in, I pulled up the key system data through the OBD port to check programming status. Both of his fobs were still properly registered to the vehicle. Nothing had dropped out. The issue was exactly what I suspected from the phone call: the CR2032 was dead, and without battery power the fob couldn't communicate at all, remote or proximity.
Swapped the battery. Cleaned the contacts inside the fob housing while I had it open. Walked every function: door handles, lock, unlock, start button response. All of it came back clean.
He'd been bracing for a full key replacement job plus a two-day wait. He drove home before the morning traffic built up. I told him to toss a spare CR2032 in his center console so the next dead battery is a two-minute fix in a parking lot instead of a phone call to a locksmith at dawn. He said he'd already added it to his grocery list before I finished the sentence.
