2022 Honda Accord Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
I got a call from a muffler shop over in Bay Marina, National City. A 2022 Accord owner had already been through it once that day.
Another locksmith had come out, started a key programming job, and somewhere mid-sequence the car battery dropped voltage. The programming handshake died partway through, the immobilizer module went into a fault state, and the other locksmith packed up and left without finishing the job. The shop called me because they knew the owner and didn't want to tell him to wait three days at a dealer.
When I got there, the car wasn't starting, the push-to-start wasn't responding to the fob, and the dash was showing a key-not-detected warning even with the fob directly on the start button. Not ideal.
First thing I did was put my jump pack on the battery and let the voltage stabilize. That part's boring but it's the whole ballgame on a late-model Honda. Once I had steady voltage, I connected to the OBD port, cleared the fault that had been sitting in the immobilizer module since the interrupted session, and let the system come back to a clean state. Then I ran the full programming sequence from scratch. The new fob registered on the first attempt. Push-to-start worked. All five buttons confirmed. Doors locked and unlocked. The whole check.
Total time on-site was about an hour and a half, longer than a clean job would take, because of the recovery work before I could even start programming. The owner had been quoted a wait at the dealer and a flatbed ride. He got it done in the parking lot, same afternoon.
I spent a few minutes with the muffler shop guys explaining what happened, specifically the voltage issue, so they'd have something useful to tell future customers if the topic ever came up again.
