2015 Infiniti QX50
Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in San Diego

2015 Infiniti QX50 Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

Out in Casa de Oro, a guy called me from a gravel overflow lot off the main stretch. He had bought his 2015 Infiniti QX50 used about a year before, and the previous owner had handed him exactly one fob.

That was the whole set. He had been meaning to get a spare made and never got around to it. Then one morning the single fob went somewhere it was not coming back from.

He figured the car was stuck until he could arrange a tow to the dealer and wait however many days it took them to sort it out. I told him I could be in Casa de Oro that afternoon and handle it on site.

When I got there, the QX50 was just sitting in the sun with no way in. I used a mechanical entry method to open the door without touching the lock hardware, then got to work decoding the lock cylinder so I could cut a matching emergency blade. That blade is the backup inside the smart fob itself, and it has to be right.

From there I connected through the OBD port and ran the all-keys-lost procedure. That sequence clears every fob the immobilizer had on record and registers the new key as the only one. It takes a few minutes because there is a timed portion built into the process that you cannot rush. When it finished, he pressed the start button, the engine came up, and he just stood there for a second like he was waiting for something to go wrong.

I cut him a second fob while I was there. He had already lived through what having only one gets you.

Dealer route would have meant a tow, a service write-up, parts on order, and probably a multi-day wait. He paid a fraction of that, standing in the same parking lot where the car had been sitting all morning.
