2018 Infiniti QX50 Emergency Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
I was parked near the old Vineyard Avenue corridor on the Westside Escondido side when this call came in. A woman had pulled the emergency blade out of her QX50 fob to get in the door because the fob battery had completely died. Smart move. She got inside. Then she realized the car would not start.
She thought the blade was the key. A lot of people do.
I explained it on the phone before I even drove over. The blade unlocks the door mechanically when the fob battery is dead. But the fob itself still has to wake up and talk to the immobilizer before the engine will run. A dead battery in the fob means the car reads it at close range through the backup antenna built into the start button area, but only if the battery has some life left. Hers had none.
When I got there, I pulled out a fresh CR2032, seated it correctly, and the fob came right back. We tested every function. Engine started, doors locked and unlocked, all of it working again.
She had been maybe ten minutes away from calling a tow to the dealer. The dealer would have been a longer wait and a bigger bill. Instead she drove home the same evening, from a parking lot on the Westside.
The emergency blade is good to know about. But it is not the whole story with this system.
