Out near La Mesa Village, I got a call from someone who had bought a 2021 QX50 certified pre-owned about two years before. One key. The salesperson at the time told her getting a spare was no rush. She never got around to it.
Then the fob cracked along the seam. Not dropped hard, not submerged, just the slow stress fracture these housings develop over time. Moisture got in, the internal contacts corroded, and she had zero working keys and a car sitting in her driveway that she needed for work the next morning.

Forty minutes, start to finish, in her driveway. She went from no keys to two working smart keys. The dealer had already been called the night before and quoted her a number that made her stomach drop, plus a wait for a parts order.
Moral: if your fob cracks, don't throw it away. Even broken in pieces, it might save you time and money. Bring what you have.
