Not every Jeep owner lives near a dealership. A farm foreman on an avocado grove outside Rancho Santa Fe had a 2002 Jeep Cherokee that needed a new key. The nearest Jeep dealer was over an hour each way. I worked on the vehicle right at the grove. His Jeep uses an older Fobik key with a Y159 blade, which is one of the most common keyways across the Jeep and Chrysler lineup. I used my VVDI2 to clone the transponder chip from his worn original and cut a fresh blade so the vehicle accepted it immediately without a full reprogram. His Fobik, FCC ID , was a 3-button unit that I rebuilt into a new shell and tested at the property gate.
Two working keys before I left. Total was $138. Dealer route would have been $319 plus two hours of driving or a long-distance tow. For rural customers, mobile service isn't a luxury. It's the only thing that makes sense.
