Out near the Naval Base Area in Coronado, a mom called me about her 2019 Cherokee key. It was not dead yet, but she could see it coming. The fob housing had a hairline crack running along the seam, and she had already noticed the touch-unlock on the driver door getting inconsistent. I opened the cracked fob housing and moved her electronics into a fresh shell, then cut a new blade to match the vehicle and ran the programming sequence through the OBD port to pair everything properly. While I had it open I checked the battery contact and the transponder element -- both were in good shape, which meant she was not losing any function she had before, just getting a solid housing around it.
I ran through every button before she signed off. Lock, unlock, the remote functions, the panic, all of it. Everything responded clean.
The kids came out before I had packed the tools back into the van. She had a working key in her hand, the old cracked shell in her pocket as a backup she could actually trust now, and a parking lot bill that was a fraction of what the dealer quoted for a replacement fob and programming. The dealer's number was for parts and labor combined. Mine was less, and it happened in the same window as a dance class.
