2019 Jeep Cherokee Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
Out near the Naval Base Area in Coronado, a mom called me about her 2019 Cherokee key. It was not dead yet, but she could see it coming.
The fob housing had a hairline crack running along the seam, and she had already noticed the touch-unlock on the driver door getting inconsistent. She knew the difference between "this will fail eventually" and "this will fail at the worst possible moment," and she was trying to get ahead of it.
The problem was logistics. Three kids, a tight weekly schedule built around school pickups and after-school activities, and one vehicle. The dealer told her to drop it off. She asked how long. They said plan for a half day, possibly a full day depending on the bay schedule. That was not a realistic option for her.
She called me while the kids were in an activity near the Naval Base Area. I met her in the parking lot while they were still inside.
I opened the cracked fob housing and moved her electronics into a fresh shell, then cut a new blade to match the vehicle and ran the programming sequence through the OBD port to pair everything properly. While I had it open I checked the battery contact and the transponder element -- both were in good shape, which meant she was not losing any function she had before, just getting a solid housing around it.
I ran through every button before she signed off. Lock, unlock, the remote functions, the panic, all of it. Everything responded clean.
The kids came out before I had packed the tools back into the van. She had a working key in her hand, the old cracked shell in her pocket as a backup she could actually trust now, and a parking lot bill that was a fraction of what the dealer quoted for a replacement fob and programming. The dealer's number was for parts and labor combined. Mine was less, and it happened in the same window as a dance class.
