2022 Jeep Cherokee Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
Over in Alpine Village, I got a call from a woman who manages a small dental office. She hadn't lost her key, just lost her spare, and she wanted a backup before she was down to one fob and no margin for error. Smart thinking. She'd already called the dealer and heard a timeline that didn't work for her.
I confirmed her VIN over the phone, verified the key type, pulled the right fob blank, and drove out to her. She was on her lunch break and standing in the parking lot when I pulled up.
She wanted to watch the whole thing, which I always welcome. I walked her through connecting to the OBD port, explained that this generation of Cherokee uses a secured communications layer between the port and the programming modules, and showed her what the tool does while it negotiates access. She asked good questions. When the fob was paired and the vehicle accepted it, I went through every function in front of her: lock, unlock, remote start if equipped, the panic button, and the door handle proximity response on both front doors. Then I had her start the vehicle herself three times with the new fob and confirmed range from across the lot.
Thirty-five minutes from arrival to handing it over. She said she'd expected it to take the better part of a day based on what the dealer implied. It didn't. She left with a working spare and made it back inside before her first afternoon patient.
The dealer comparison came up naturally at the end. She'd gotten a quote. I won't repeat the number, but she said she saved a good chunk and didn't have to leave her car anywhere.
