I got a call from a woman in the Border Area, right off one of the side streets near the port of entry. She had a 2005 Jeep Cherokee and one key left. Not zero keys, but one, and it was the original from the dealership with a crack running through the plastic head near the blade. She could feel it flexing when she turned the ignition.

I handed it to her and had her test it cold, meaning she walked away, came back, and tried it herself without me standing there coaching her.
It worked. She held onto the cracked original as a backup and asked how long she had on it. Honest answer: not long if that crack keeps spreading. But now she had time to deal with it on her schedule instead of on the car's schedule.
The dealer had been her first call. They told her to bring it in, said it would be a few days for parts. She called me instead and had a working spare key before dinner.
