A couple out near Lemon Grove Plaza in Oxnard came out of dinner around 9 on a Friday night. Their 2014 A5 would not respond to the fob. No unlock, no lights, nothing. The emergency blade slot on the driver's door handle was stuck, so they could not even get inside.
They figured the car was sitting there until Monday.
I was about 15 minutes out. I already had the right IYZFBSB802 housing, a fresh CR2032, HU66 blanks, and Megamos AES chips in labeled drawers behind my seat. When I got there I popped the fob open on the hood and found the CR2032 completely flat. But just swapping the battery was not going to be enough. The BCM2 had dropped the key from its learned list, which happens sometimes when the fob goes fully dead and the owner keeps pressing buttons. The module reads those attempts as corrupted handshakes and flags the key.
I pulled cluster data with my VVDI Prog, read the component security bytes off the BCM2, and re-registered the fob through the OBD port with the VVDI2. Engine started on the first turn. Then I worked the door handle blade slot free so they would have a backup entry method next time.
They drove home that Friday night. The whole thing took maybe 35 minutes. The dealer would have meant a flatbed and a wait until Monday morning, plus a bill that would have been a lot harder to swallow.
