2017 Audi A5
Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in Ventura County

Q: How does mobile key replacement work for the 2017 A5?

You call, give me the year, make, model, and VIN. I confirm the right key blank for your A5 and give you a price before I show up. When I arrive, I either decode your door lock directly or reference the key code if you have it. I cut the replacement blade on my machine, test it in the door and the ignition, and that's the job. No waiting room, no tow, no second visit.

Q: What do I need to have ready when you arrive?

Your vehicle, a valid photo ID, and proof of ownership - registration works fine. I pull the VIN from the dash or door jamb to confirm the key specs before I cut anything. That's the whole list. Dealers sometimes add steps to this process, like VIN-based ordering that goes back through their internal channels and adds days to the wait. Here it's just verify, cut, test, done.

Q: I have my original key but it's worn down and starting to slip in the ignition. Can you copy it?

Yes, but a worn key is a tricky template. If the cuts are too far gone, copying the worn blade just copies the problem - you end up with a new key that fails the same way the old one does, and possibly damages the ignition wafers over time. Better move: I decode the lock directly instead of tracing the worn key.

Q: I bought a replacement key blank online. Can you just cut it?

Depends on the blank. Bring it and I'll check it against your lock profile before I cut anything. If the blank is wrong and I cut it, it either won't go in or it'll go in and not turn - and at that point you've paid for a key that doesn't work. I keep the correct blanks for the A5 in my kit, so if yours doesn't check out, I've got the right one ready.

2017 Audi A5 Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

Got a call out to Wilson in Oxnard, a woman staying near the waterfront. She had her A5 parked outside and realized she'd lost her only key sometime between the restaurant and walking back. No spare at home. She called the dealer first and got the standard answer: tow it in, we'll order what we need, a few days minimum.

She found me an hour later.

A mechanical key job is quiet work. No programming screen, no OBD cable, no countdown timer. I decoded her lock cylinder at the door, cut the blade on my machine right there on the street, and had her in the car in under twenty minutes. She stood there for a second like she was waiting for another step.

There wasn't one. Key in, engine running, done.

She mentioned the dealer quote before she left. I just told her what she already knew: she saved a good chunk, and she didn't lose two days of her trip to a service bay.

Audi A5 Mobile Service FAQ

Real costs, no dealer surprises

Do I need to bring my 2017 Audi A5 somewhere for a key replacement?▼

No. I come to wherever the car is - your driveway, a parking lot, the hotel you're staying at in Wilson. For a mechanical key, there's no reason to move the vehicle anywhere. I decode the lock or use the key code, cut the blade on site, and hand it to you. The whole thing happens next to your car.
