His 1996 BMW Z3 was sitting in the lot with zero keys. The BMW dealer told his wife it would be four to five business days, the car needed to be towed in, and they recommended replacing the EWS module entirely since the stolen key could still start the engine. The quote kept climbing.
I got there within the hour. The E36/7 Z3 runs EWS2 with a Philips PCF7935 chip in the key head. All-keys-lost on these means reading the EWS2 module to pull the stored key data and the ISN, then writing fresh transponder values and making sure the DME still matches. I used my programmer to read the EWS2 EEPROM, cleared the old key slots, and registered two new transponder keys from scratch. Cut the HU58 blade on site by decoding the door cylinder.
He had two working keys before his wife got there to follow him home.
The moment the engine turned over on the first try, he just sat there for a second with his hands on the wheel, like he was making sure it was real. Then he adjusted the mirror, which told me he was back to normal.
He drove his Z3 home that night. The stolen key is just a blank chip now.
