Got a call from a guy near Moorpark Marketplace. His 1997 Z3 roadster, the 1.9 four-cylinder, key snapped right in the ignition. Half the HU58 blade stuck in the cylinder, the other half in his palm.
He'd already talked to another locksmith who wanted to drill the ignition lock and replace the whole housing. On these E36/7 cars the ignition cylinder sits on the steering column and connects back to the EWS II module. Drilling it means a new lock, new EWS alignment, and a bill that keeps growing.
I got there, used my HU58 Lishi pick to grab the broken fragment out without touching the wafer surfaces inside the cylinder. Clean extraction. Then I decoded the lock right off those wafer readings, no guessing. Cut a fresh HU58 blade on the van and paired a new PCF7935 ID44 transponder chip to his EWS 2.2 module using the SKC from his key number.
Blade turned the ignition first try. Engine fired. No drilling, no cylinder swap, no tow to the dealer.
He stood there watching the whole thing and just said, "That's it?" Like he'd been bracing for a week-long ordeal. On a 27-year-old roadster, keeping the original lock intact matters. These cars deserve better than a drill bit.
