Got a call from a guy off Central Avenue in the downtown area of Fillmore. His 1999 Cadillac Eldorado was sitting in a parking spot with the hazards on and the key stuck halfway into the ignition. He said the blade had been getting harder to turn for weeks, and today it just quit cooperating.
He was already on the phone with a shop that wanted him to tow it in for a full ignition cylinder swap. Tow plus parts plus labor plus waiting two days for a cylinder to show up. For a car he drives every day.
I decoded the door lock with a Lishi tool. The wafers in the door were still in good shape, which gave me clean cut depths for all ten positions on the B106 blank. The ignition wafers were worn but not broken, just smoothed out from years of a worn blade dragging across them. A fresh cut blade with the correct VATS resistance pellet, matched to his vehicle's value, was all it took.
Slid the new key in, ignition turned smooth, no "THEFT SYSTEM PROBLEM" on the DIC, no three-minute lockout. I cycled it a dozen times and tested the KOBUT1BT remote, all four buttons, while I was there.
His original ignition cylinder stayed in place. No tow, no teardown, no waiting on parts. Done in the parking spot in Fillmore for a fraction of what the other shop wanted.
