2004 Chrysler Pacifica Remote Head Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
There's a stretch along Mandalay Beach in Oxnard where people park close to the water and stay a while. A guy there called me on a Saturday afternoon, standing next to his 2004 Pacifica, holding a remote head key that would start the car fine but wouldn't lock or unlock anything. The buttons were completely dead. He'd already tried pressing harder. We've all been there.
I got out to him, popped the back of the unit, and the CR2032 inside was so corroded on one contact point it was a wonder the transponder side was still working at all. That explained why the car started but the remote functions were gone. The transponder draws less power than the radio transmitter, so you can lose your remote functions well before the car stops recognizing the key in the ignition.
Cleaned the contact, put in a fresh CR2032, and every button came back. Tested all four, walked the locks, confirmed the ignition. Job done in under twenty minutes.
He mentioned that a friend had told him he needed a whole new key programmed and the dealer was the only place to do it. For a battery swap, that would have been a frustrating and expensive detour. I made a note of it, though, because the 2004 Pacifica is the kind of vehicle where people assume the worst the moment anything key-related acts up. Sometimes it really is that simple. Sometimes it isn't. Either way, I'm already mobile and the Mandalay Beach parking lot is as good a workspace as any dealer bay for what I do.
