2022 GMC Acadia Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
I got a call from a woman staying at an extended-stay property in Camarillo Heights. She was on a travel nursing contract, had one key for her 2022 GMC Acadia, and it stopped being recognized by the car sometime that evening.
She tried the backup: holding the fob up to the start button like the manual suggests when the battery is low. Nothing. The car just sat there giving her a key-not-detected warning on the dash.
She had already called the GMC dealer. They told her to get it towed in, said they could look at it the next afternoon, and gave her a number she wasn't happy about. She found me online about an hour later.
I drove out to the hotel lot. Before I touched anything else, I popped the fob open and checked the CR2032. It read low on the tester, which explained the passive entry dying first, but the fob itself was already past the point where a fresh battery was going to fix things. The transponder side needed to be re-enrolled.
I pulled up to the OBD port, connected my programmer, and worked through the key learning sequence for the Acadia. New fob, synced to the vehicle on site. Cut the emergency insert key on the van machine so she had a working mechanical backup too. The whole thing took about thirty minutes in the parking lot.
She made her shift. The dealer was still expecting a tow the next day.
