Over in Wilson, a woman called me about her 2014 Veloster. She had bought it used a couple of years back with one fob, told herself she'd get a spare made, and never did. Then the fob housing cracked along the seam, she tried prying it to swap the battery, and the shell gave out completely. She reached for the emergency blade to get into the car manually, forced it a little, and it snapped off in the door lock. Fob body in one hand, blade stub in the lock cylinder, zero working keys. I drove out to her complex. First thing was the blade fragment. Got that out with a broken key extractor without tearing up the lock, which matters because you want to decode that cylinder, not replace it. Once the lock was clear, I decoded the cut from the cylinder and got the blade profile I needed.

The chip inside the cracked fob housing was still intact, which is more common than people expect on these. The shell was destroyed but the internals were fine. I transferred the board into a new housing, verified the fob was functioning, and confirmed the vehicle recognized it before I did anything else. Then I cut a second key and enrolled it so she was walking away with two.

Start to finish, about 40 minutes on site. She mentioned the dealer had quoted her a number that made her put it off for weeks. That's usually how it goes. The job isn't complicated. It just requires the right equipment and someone willing to come to you.
