A 2021 Veloster owner near Fillmore Towne Theatre called after his smart key started acting up. Door touch unlock worked maybe half the time, and twice that week the car threw "Key not in vehicle" with the fob sitting right on the center console.
He'd already done the CR2032 swap. Twice. The dealer wanted to order a new 95440-J3000 fob and quoted a week wait plus programming.
I met him in the theatre parking lot and popped the fob open. The battery contacts looked good, CR2032 was fresh, but I noticed slight corrosion on the board near the transponder coil. Common spot on these when moisture gets past the seal. Cleaned it with contact cleaner, checked the seal integrity, and ran a full function test.
Everything worked except one thing: intermittent response on lock/unlock. The DST AES chip communicated fine for starting, but the remote side was spotty. I pulled up TSB 21-BE-001 on my tablet, showing him Hyundai's own notes about weak remote signals on 2021-2022 models. The fix was a simple antenna adjustment inside the fob housing.
After the adjustment and cleaning, full range came back. Touch unlock responded every time. No more false key errors. The whole job took about 20 minutes in the lot, saved him the dealer wait and a decent chunk of change.
