A guy in South Winds called me on a Thursday morning. His 2019 Veloster was sitting in the parking lot of a storage complex off Wooley Road and he had one fob left. The original second fob had gone missing months back and he kept meaning to get a spare cut. Then the one he had started acting up: intermittent range, door handles not picking up the signal on the first touch, car taking an extra second to recognize him on approach.

When I got there I opened the fob. The battery was seated, but one of the contact clips had a very slight inward bow, just enough to let the cell shift under vibration. I straightened it out, reseated the same battery since it was recent, and the fob range came back to normal immediately. Touch unlock on both handles, all four buttons working clean.
But he still had the all-keys-lost problem waiting to happen, so we did the spare right there. I connected to the OBD port, pulled the security data the system stores, and registered a new fob alongside the repaired one. Cut the emergency blade to the vehicle. Tested every button, both keys, walked both door handles. The whole thing ran about forty minutes in that lot.
He mentioned the dealer had quoted him a number with separate line items for the fob itself, programming labor, and a shop fee. His total with me was a fraction of that, and I came to him during a short break instead of him arranging a tow or a day off.
