2013 Land Rover Range Rover Sport Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
Got a call from a guy near Corriganville Park in Simi Valley. His 2013 Range Rover Sport was sitting in his driveway doing absolutely nothing. Key fob buttons worked the locks, but the dash just showed "Smart Key Not Found" when he pressed the start button. He had already replaced the CR2032 twice.
He told me the dealer wanted him to tow it in and leave it for at least a week because they had to order the fob from JLR. He did not love that plan.
I pulled up, connected to the OBD port, and read out the KVM. The existing KOBJTF10A fob was actually still registered. No corrupted key slots. What I did find was a string of CAN bus faults pointing back to a body control issue that had knocked communication offline between the KVM and the smart key antenna ring around the steering column. Cleared the stored faults, power-cycled the KVM, and the fob handshake came back immediately.
Tested all five buttons. Lock, unlock, trunk release, panic, and the secondary lock. Then three start-stop cycles to make sure the immobilizer was behaving. He sat in the driver seat for the last cycle and just watched the tach sweep up like he had not seen it in days.
No new key needed. Just diagnostics, done on his driveway, for a fraction of what a tow and dealer visit would have run him.
