2016 Land Rover Range Rover Sport
Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in Ventura County

2016 Land Rover Range Rover Sport Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

A woman up in the Santa Susana Knolls part of Simi Valley called me on a Tuesday. She'd been down to one key for months and kept telling herself she'd deal with it later.

Then "later" showed up: she set the fob on the kitchen counter, her kid grabbed it, and it ended up in a cup of water. Not a puddle. A cup of water, sitting there for a while.

The fob was dead. No response, no lock, no start, nothing. She got into the car with the mechanical backup blade in the fob handle, but the engine wouldn't turn over. The car saw a key in the door, but the electronics weren't talking.

I drove out to her place. The fob internals had moisture damage, but the vehicle security system still had her original key registered. That actually helped. I was able to verify the existing key data through the OBD port, which meant this wasn't a full all-keys-lost situation. New fob, programmed on site, alongside confirming the original registration was still intact. She had a working key in about 35 minutes.

Before I left, I mentioned that a spare now would cost her a fraction of what an all-keys-lost job runs. She didn't hesitate.

The dealer crossed her mind exactly once, she said, until a neighbor told her it took them over a week just to get a key ordered through the Land Rover network. She didn't have a week. Nobody really does.
