Out in Strathearn, I got a call from a guy who had done everything right. Fresh CR2032, seated correctly, fob snapped back together clean. Still getting a key-not-detected warning every other time he walked up to the truck.

When it's intermittent like that on a 2014 Range Rover Sport, the fob itself is usually fine. The more likely story is one of the door handle antennas or an interior antenna doing something weird, or occasionally the key has slipped out of the vehicle's memory after a battery disconnect or a module reset. I pulled up with the programming equipment and ran a check. The fob wasn't fully registered anymore. The shop had disconnected the main battery, the module lost its mind a little, and the key enrollment didn't survive. Not uncommon on these.
Re-enrolled the key through the OBD port using JLR-compatible software, walked every door handle, tested proximity start, checked all five buttons, confirmed the emergency blade still worked in the door handle slot. About forty minutes total, done in his driveway.
He'd already called the Land Rover dealer before reaching me. They wanted him to leave the truck, said they'd need to order a part they weren't sure he needed, and couldn't give him a timeframe. He kept the truck, kept his afternoon, and paid a fraction of what they quoted just for the diagnostic.
