Got a call from a guy in Downtown Ventura who had been sitting on this for weeks. His 2003 CLK320 had one working key left, and the plastic housing was cracked down the seam. He'd been holding it together with a rubber band. Said every time he squeezed it wrong the lock and unlock buttons would misfire, or the trunk would pop while he was driving.

I met him in a parking lot off Main Street. Pulled the old key apart on the hood and transferred his original board, the one with the 5WK47283 stamped on it, into a new aftermarket shell. Same blade, same transponder, same remote. No programming needed because the guts never changed.
The part that got him was how fast it was. He kept turning the key over in his hand like he was waiting for something to go wrong. Tested all four buttons. Started the car twice. Opened the trunk from twenty feet away just because he could.
Whole thing took less time than his phone call to the dealer did.
