Got a call from a CLK owner in the Juanamaria neighborhood in Ventura. She had one working key left and the lock/unlock buttons had quit months ago. She had been unlocking the door with the blade and hitting the lock button on the inside of the door every time she parked. Just living with it.
When I got there, I popped the key open on her front porch table. The CR2025 was original. Eight years old, corroded around the edges, voltage barely registering. Swapped it, cleaned the IR transmitter lens, and the remote came back to life on the spot. All four buttons, lock, unlock, trunk, panic. She stood there clicking it from across the driveway like she was testing the range for fun.
Then the real job. She wanted a spare made so she would never be down to one key again. Cut a new IYZ-3312 blank by code, programmed the transponder through the OBD-II port to sync with her EIS module, and paired the remote functions. Tested start, tested all buttons, cycled the ignition a few times to make sure the immobilizer handshake was solid.
The whole thing took about 35 minutes. She said she had called the Mercedes dealer in Oxnard weeks earlier and they quoted her a wait time that started at ten days just for the appointment. She did not end up needing that appointment.
