Got a call from someone up near the Santa Barbara Botanic Garden with a 2004 G-Class sitting in the lot, no keys at all. Both remotes gone somewhere on the trail. His voice had that calm panic where the person has already Googled enough to know this might be a bad day.
I pulled up and the G-Wagon was just sitting there looking like it weighed more than my van. W463 chassis, the one they barely changed for twenty years. Under the dash, the EIS module on these runs the older NEC chip, not the newer BGA processor Mercedes moved to later. That matters because NEC-based EIS units let me do the full all-keys-lost procedure through the OBD port without pulling the module or sending anything to a server.
Connected the programmer, read the EIS, wiped the old key data so whatever pair is lost out on the hiking trail is now dead to the car. Cut a fresh HU64 blade on site from the EIS data, programmed the IYZ-3312 remote head key with the transponder and the four-button IR remote in one shot.
He sat in the driver's seat and turned it over while I stood there waiting for the second crank that never came. Fired right up.
The whole thing took about 40 minutes. He mentioned the dealer had quoted him days of wait time and a tow. Instead he drove himself home before the garden closed.
