2005 Mercedes-Benz G-Class Remote Head Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
Got a call from a G-Class owner near Alice Keck Park Memorial Garden in Santa Barbara. He had one working key left, the spare was gone, and the remaining IYZ-3312 remote had a cracked case held together with electrical tape. The lock button had stopped working weeks ago. He said he had been locking the car by holding the key against the driver door handle and pressing, which half worked. The tape was doing nothing.
I pulled up, set up on the sidewalk, and got the blank cut first. The G-Class blade is a high-security profile, HU64, so the portable machine took a little extra time dialing in the cuts. Once the blade was done, I connected to the OBD-II port and talked to the EIS module to register the new transponder. The W463 EIS reads the key's infrared signal and compares it against stored profiles. New key went in, transponder synced, all four remote buttons tested clean: lock, unlock, trunk, panic.
He picked up his old key with the tape and just looked at it for a second. Then dropped it in his cup holder like it personally wronged him.
Total time on site was about 35 minutes. He kept the old key as a backup, minus the tape. I told him to at least get a replacement shell on it so the board does not short out from pocket lint and moisture.
