Got a call from a guy in the College Estates area of Oxnard. His 2010 ML350 had one working key left, and the panic button on it had stopped responding weeks ago. Then the remote lock and unlock quit too. He was down to jamming the key into the ignition and turning it manually, no remote anything.
He had already called the Mercedes dealer. They told him to bring the car in, leave it, and wait a few days for a replacement key to come in from the parts department. He did not love that plan.
I got to his place in about twenty minutes. Popped the key open on his tailgate and found the CR2025 looking fine voltage-wise but the battery contact leaf had a green tint on one side. Corrosion creeping in from a cheap replacement battery he had put in a while back. Cleaned the contacts, dropped in a fresh Energizer CR2025, and reassembled.
Remote buttons came back immediately. But the transponder side needed attention too. I read the EIS through the OBD port, confirmed his key was still registered, and ran a fresh program cycle on the remote functions through the VVDI MB. Tested all four buttons at distance, tested Keyless-Go start, tested the door handle touch sensors.
He stood there clicking the lock button over and over just to hear the chirp. I get it. When something stops working for weeks and then just works again, you do not trust it right away.
