Over in Sycamore Square in Simi Valley, a guy flagged me down at the church parking lot. He'd already paid another locksmith for a replacement smart key on his 2018 Outlander Sport. Mitsubishi's immobilizer on these third-gen Outlander Sports runs a timed key-learn cycle through the ETACS. If you rush it or skip the confirmation step, the transponder writes to temporary memory but never commits to permanent storage. The car sees the key for a moment, then forgets it. Looks like a module failure if you don't know the system.

I used a MIT11 Lishi to verify his blade cut matched the door, then connected through OBD. Cleared the failed key data, ran a clean learn with the full timed registration sequence on the IM608, and watched the confirmation screen show the key stored to permanent memory. His OUC644M-KEY-N, part number 8637B885, started the engine clean on three consecutive tests. No hesitation, no security light.

He'd already spent money with the first guy, and I couldn't undo that. But I made sure the key actually worked this time, on site, for way less than a dealer would have charged to do the same thing.
