2020 Mitsubishi Outlander Sport Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
There is a fishing spot out past the edge of Camarillo, and the guy who called me had been driving out there in his 2020 Outlander Sport since he bought it. He found me on YouTube before he ever lost a key.
Watched a Mitsubishi key video, saw the actual tools, the actual car, the actual process, and saved my number because he said he liked knowing what to expect before something went wrong.
Something went wrong.
His smart fob started losing range. Not dead, just shrinking. He had to be practically on top of the door handle before it would read. Then one morning it stopped triggering the door at a normal walking distance at all, and he called.
I met him in the Village at the Park neighborhood. Checked the CR2032 first, which is always the right first move on these. The battery had enough voltage to read on a meter but was borderline under load, which is exactly the reading that fools people into thinking the battery is fine when it is not. Swapped it, reseated the contacts, and the range came back to where it should be.
Then I walked every function. Lock, unlock, the third button, all of it. Checked that the door handle touch response was consistent on both front doors. Did three clean starts. Everything was solid.
He had already braced himself for a full replacement. Dealer was going to be a wait, a tow-in recommendation, and a number he was not happy about. Turned out he needed a battery swap done right and a tech who knew to check contact pressure and not just the battery alone. Took less time than he expected, and he was back out to his spot by midday.
