A woman down in Channel Islands Harbor called me late on a Saturday. She had been at a birthday thing at one of the spots near the marina when her purse got grabbed off a table. Keys, wallet, phone, all of it gone in a few seconds.
She borrowed a friend's phone and called the police first, then her roommate, then me.
Her 2011 Nissan Cube was sitting in the valet lot with zero keys. The roommate had already called the Nissan dealer earlier that evening. They said they could order a replacement Intelligent Key but it would be three to five business days. The car would need a tow in. And they recommended getting the locks checked since the stolen fob could still unlock the doors. The whole thing was going to add up fast and leave her without a car for most of the week.
I got out there that night. All-keys-lost after a theft is a different procedure than adding a spare. I connected my IM608 to the OBD port, accessed the NATS module through the BCM, wiped the entire key memory so the stolen CWTWB1U808 could never start or unlock that Cube again. Programmed two fresh fobs from scratch, decoded the door cylinder, and cut both emergency blades on site.
She drove herself home before midnight. The stolen key is just a dead piece of plastic now.
