A UCSB grad student called me about her 2021 Kicks that wouldn't start in the campus parking structure. Push button just flashed "No Key Detected" no matter where she held the fob.
She'd already tried the manual start trick - holding the fob against the button while pressing. Nothing. The CR2032 was fresh from last week. Remote buttons worked fine for locks and panic. Just wouldn't start.
I checked the fob with my key tester first. Good signal, good battery voltage. Then I popped it open and found the problem: one battery clip had a hairline crack right where it bends. The remote functions need less power than the passive start system, so locks worked but push-start didn't.
Quick solder repair on the contact, cleaned the board while I had it open. The Kicks fired right up. She mentioned the dealer wanted her to buy a whole new fob for over $300 plus programming. The repair took fifteen minutes in the parking garage.
These KR5TXN3 fobs are actually pretty solid once you fix the weak points. Better than the older Nissan fobs that would just fall apart after a few years.
