Got called to Camino Real Marketplace for a 2022 Kicks that wouldn't recognize its only key. Owner tried the panic button method he saw on YouTube. Didn't work.
The Kicks displayed "No Key Detected" on the dash. He held the fob against the start button like the manual says, and it fired up once. Then nothing. Dead in the parking lot with a cart full of groceries melting.
I popped his KR5TXPZ1 fob open right there on the trunk lid. The CR2032 tested at 2.8V, which seems fine but these need 3.0V minimum for the AES-128 chip to transmit properly. Fresh battery, cleaned the contacts with DeoxIT.
While that dried, I connected my Autel IM608 Pro to check for DTCs. Sure enough, B2799 stored in the BCM. That's "Key ID Incorrect" in Nissan speak. Cleared it, did a key detection test, and the fob came back online at full signal strength.
The whole diagnosis and fix took maybe 20 minutes. He asked what the dealer would have done. Based on what I've seen, they'd have ordered a new smart key, programmed it through CONSULT-III+, and charged way more than a battery and proper diagnosis costs. His groceries made it home cold.
