2016 Subaru BRZ Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
Out in Cathedral Oaks, late on a weeknight, I got a call from a guy who works a night-shift cleaning job. He'd parked his 2016 BRZ in a laundromat lot off Goleta and somewhere between the building and the car, his only key was gone. Not at home. Not in a drawer. Gone.
He was calm for about the first thirty seconds of the call, and then not calm at all. He mentioned towing it, which would have meant paying to move a car that wasn't broken, just locked.
I told him to slow down and find his VIN before he did anything else. He didn't know where to look. I walked him through it: through the windshield, lower corner, driver's side. He found it. His insurance app had the rest of what I needed. By the time I had his information, I already knew what I was dealing with and had the right fob ready before I left for the lot.
Under the parking lot lights I built and programmed a replacement smart key for the BRZ, registered it to the vehicle's immobilizer, and confirmed every button and the start function before I handed it over. The whole thing took less than 45 minutes from the time I arrived.
He drove home that night. The dealer was closed and would have been a tow-and-wait situation even the next morning. The VIN he almost didn't know he had is what made the whole job fast.
