A kayaker near the Ojai Valley Inn lost his only smart key somewhere between the launch point and his car. Searched for a half hour, asked around, nothing turned up. His 2020 Subaru BRZ was just sitting there and he had zero way to open it.
He was already looking up tow companies when he called me. Figured the dealer was the only path. I told him I could handle it on site that afternoon.
First thing I did was pick and decode the DAT17 side-milled lock with a Lishi tool. That reads each wafer position so I can cut an exact emergency blade without needing the original. Then I connected through the OBD port and ran the all-keys-lost procedure for the Denso immobilizer. The sequence clears previously registered fobs and writes the new HYQ14AHC as primary. On the BRZ, the security handshake runs DST-AES 128-bit, so the tool has to complete a timed exchange with the immobilizer ECU before it accepts the new key.
He stood behind me watching the whole thing. When the engine turned over, he didn't say anything for a second. Just looked at the dash, then back at me, like he was waiting for something to go wrong. Nothing did.
Lock decode to engine running, about 45 minutes. The dealer quoted him way more plus a tow. He drove home from that same lot.
