2022 Subaru BRZ
Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in Ventura County

2022 Subaru BRZ Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

There's a gravel alley that runs behind a row of duplexes a few blocks from the water in Hueneme Beach. Not the kind of place you picture when you think "locksmith call," but that's exactly where I was at about midnight on a weeknight.

The guy who called me works third shift at the port. He came home in the early morning hours, his BRZ parked in that alley, and somewhere between the gate and his front door the fob stopped being recognized. He tried it again. Then again. Then he just stood there in the dark next to the car, running through the mental math of a tow, a dealer appointment, days without a vehicle, and how none of that fit around a port schedule. He found me and figured he'd ask before he gave up on the night.

I told him to stay put.

The alley was quiet when I got there. I set up at the rear of the car, connected to the OBD port, and ran the all-keys-lost procedure for the BRZ smart key system. The fob he handed me matched the correct factory FCC ID, which matters on these because a wrong-sourced fob will stall the job entirely. It was the right part. The programming went through, I walked every button, confirmed the push-to-start was responding, checked the door handles, and pulled the emergency blade and tested that too.

He had about thirty minutes invested from the time I pulled in. He was back inside before 1 a.m.

He had already looked up what the dealer would want for the same job, plus a tow since the car wasn't going anywhere on its own. The number he found was not close to what he paid me. That part barely came up because by then the car was already sorted.
