Out in Granite Hills, on the east side of El Cajon, a guy called me about his 1997 Malibu sitting in a lot off the lake area. Lost his only key somewhere between the water and the parking strip. He'd walked the whole path twice, checked with people nearby, nothing. The car was just sitting there.

He put it in the ignition. Turned. Car started.

That was it. No tow. No waiting three days for a dealer appointment. He asked me to cut him a second one on the spot so he'd have a spare, which is always the right call after you've been through a lost-key afternoon.

The dealer option would have meant a tow first, then an appointment, then parts, then labor billed separately. He drove home from that same lot instead.
