Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in San Diego

2022 Chevrolet Malibu Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

She had just left urgent care with her kid and a bag of prescriptions. The 2022 Malibu was sitting in the parking lot and nothing was happening when she pressed the start button. Not a sputter, not a warning chime, just the dash and silence.

She tried the fob a few times. Then she remembered there was a backup start method but could not recall the steps, and the owner's manual was in the glove box she could not open because the car would not unlock either. It was just past seven in the evening and the pharmacy closed at nine.

She called the dealer. Closed. Then she called me. I was in the Casa de Oro area of La Mesa and told her twenty minutes.

When I got there she was sitting on the curb with her kid, both of them eating vending machine crackers. I walked her through the backup start procedure first so she would know it cold if this ever happened again. Then I popped the fob. The CR2032 was dead, and the casing had a crack near the battery door from a previous drop. The internal battery contact had a slight bend that would have caused problems even with a fresh cell.

I replaced the fob, programmed it to the vehicle through the diagnostic port, and tested every button before I put anything away. The whole call, from the time she reached me by phone to the engine running, was under an hour. She made the pharmacy with time left on the clock.

The dealer would have been an appointment the next morning at the earliest. Sometimes the value of a mobile locksmith is not just price. It is that the car runs tonight.
