2007 Chevrolet Malibu
Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in San Diego

Q: How do I know you are not a scam locksmith?

Ask for the license number, the company name, and a firm price tied to your specific vehicle before anyone rolls. That's the test. Scam operations quote low on the phone and then tack on a "programming fee" or "security fee" at your car, sometimes tripling what they first said. Legitimate locksmiths give you a real number for the actual job upfront, and that number doesn't change when we arrive.

Q: Will the replacement key work exactly like my original?

Yes. The key gets cut to your vehicle and the transponder inside the head gets programmed to your immobilizer. We test that it starts the car before we pack up. The 2007 Malibu is a transponder turn-key, so the test is simple and definitive: if the car starts and runs normally, the programming took. We don't leave until that's confirmed.

Q: My 2007 Malibu starts but then immediately stalls. Could that be a key problem?

That specific pattern, starts and then dies within a few seconds, is a known sign of an immobilizer communication problem. The engine management system sees the key, allows the start, and then cuts fuel when the security check doesn't complete properly. It can happen with a worn transponder chip, a damaged key head, or a fault in the immobilizer system itself. Sometimes it's the key, sometimes it's something deeper. Either way, that's a job I diagnose on site.

Q: I have a spare key that was never programmed. Can you program it without me having my original?

Yes, that's doable. A spare that was cut but never programmed is actually a good situation to be in. As long as we can verify the cut matches the vehicle, programming it to the immobilizer is the remaining step. Whether or not you also have a working original key on hand affects which procedure applies, but either way it's a same-day job. Bring the unprogrammed spare or have it with you when you call and we'll walk through it.

2007 Chevrolet Malibu Transponder Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

I got a call from a guy in Downtown National City on a Wednesday morning. He was parked near the shops on National City Boulevard, halfway through his errands, and his 2007 Malibu just wasn't going anywhere.

His only key had snapped at the bow, right where the plastic head meets the blade. The blade was still in his pocket, the key head with the chip was somewhere in his center console, and the car wasn't starting on either piece alone.

He had already called the dealer. They told him to tow it in, no walk-ins, and the earliest they could look at it was the following Monday. He had work Thursday. He asked if I could come to him.

I drove to him in Downtown National City. I decoded the blade he had, cut a new key to match, then did the transponder programming on site. The immobilizer accepted it clean on the first attempt. No fault codes, no hesitation, just a normal start cycle like nothing had happened.

He held the new key for a second and said something like, "That's it?" That's it. The dealer would have had him towed, waiting through the weekend, and paying considerably more for the privilege. Wednesday call, Wednesday fix, back to his errands the same afternoon.

Are you licensed and insured to work on Chevrolet vehicles?▼

Yes. EZ Car Keyz is licensed through the California Bureau of Security and Investigative Services, which is the state agency that licenses and regulates automotive locksmiths. We carry full liability insurance. For a vehicle like the 2007 Malibu, the job involves both cutting the physical key and programming the transponder to the vehicle's immobilizer, and you want someone credentialed handling that work. We're set up for it and we come to you in Downtown National City.
