2025 Chevrolet Trax
Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in San Diego

2025 Chevrolet Trax Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

Out at The Bridges in Rancho Santa Fe, a resident called me on a Saturday afternoon. He had been out near the water and somewhere between the trail and the parking area, his only fob disappeared. He retraced his steps twice. Nothing. His 2025 Chevrolet Trax was sitting there locked, and he had no way in and no way to start it.

I told him I could be there that afternoon.

When I arrived, I used my entry tools to get the door open without damage, then decoded the lock to cut an accurate replacement key blade. After that came the part that actually matters on a modern Smart Key vehicle: connecting through the OBD port and running the all-keys-lost sequence on the immobilizer. That process clears every previously registered fob from the system, which means the lost one becomes useless if someone finds it. Then I registered two new fobs so he would not be back in this position a year from now.

First crank, the Trax started clean. I walked every button on both fobs before I packed up.

He asked about the dealer option mostly out of curiosity. I told him what it would have involved: a tow, a wait for a shop appointment, and a bill that would have been a significant chunk more than what he paid me. He nodded and said he was glad he called first.

Forty-five minutes in the parking area and he drove home with two working keys.
