Out in Fanita Ranch, I got a call from a guy who had snapped his key in the ignition of his 2006 Honda Pilot. Not bent, not jammed. Snapped clean, with half the blade still sitting in the cylinder.
He had already called another locksmith. That guy told him the cylinder would need to be drilled out and replaced, new keys cut, the whole thing. The quote was enough to make him stop and look for a second opinion. That second opinion found me.
When I got there, the broken blade was sitting right in the ignition. Not deep, not wedged. I extracted it with the right Lishi tool for that lock, working through the keyway without touching the wafers inside. Once it was out, I decoded the lock. Every wafer position read clean, and I had the cut code without needing the original key or a VIN lookup.
I cut a new key blade on site, programmed the transponder chip through the OBD port, and synced the remote functions. Tested it in the ignition, tested all three buttons, tested it from across the parking area to check remote range.
The cylinder was untouched. His lock worked exactly the way it did before the break. He did not need a new cylinder, he did not need a tow, and he did not pay anywhere near what the first locksmith was quoting. He just needed the right tool and someone willing to do the job correctly the first time.
