2021 Honda Pilot
Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in San Diego

2021 Honda Pilot Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

I was in Shadowridge on a Tuesday morning, parked outside one of the townhome complexes near the back of the neighborhood. The call came in the night before -- a 2021 Honda Pilot owner, second fob lost, now down to one key and starting to feel the pressure of that situation. She wanted a spare before something went wrong with the only one left.

She met me in the parking lot and handed over the working fob so I could reference it. The original was in good shape, CR2032 still alive, buttons responsive. That actually made the job cleaner. I had a working fob to verify against while I cut and paired the new one.

I pulled the diagnostic equipment out of the van, connected to the OBD port, and got into the key registration process. The 2021 Pilot requires professional tooling to add a key -- no workaround for that. New fob programmed, emergency insert blade cut to the vehicle, function check on all five buttons, door handles, start. Took about 45 minutes on site.

She asked at the end what the dealer would have charged. I told her to call and get a quote sometime just for reference. She said she'd already asked when the second fob went missing -- they quoted her a number that made her put the phone down and start searching for a mobile locksmith instead. She found me, I was already in Vista that morning, and the whole thing was done before her first meeting.

That's usually how it goes.
