Sometimes, but there are real risks with this approach on the 2021 Pilot.

First, the factory FCC ID on the fob has to be correct for your vehicle. A fob with the wrong identifier may not pair at all, regardless of what the listing says. Aftermarket fobs vary in quality, and some simply won't register reliably even with professional equipment.

Second, the button count matters. Your Pilot uses a five-button fob. A four-button unit from a similar Honda model is not a direct substitute.

If you already bought one, bring it. I'll tell you upfront whether it looks viable before we start. But if you haven't purchased yet, call me first. Buying the wrong fob costs more in the end.

My 2021 Pilot starts fine but the door handles stopped responding to the fob. What's going on?

If the vehicle starts and the push-to-start sees the fob, the pairing itself is intact. That rules out a programming failure.

A few things cause this specific symptom. A low CR2032 battery can drop the fob's signal range enough that the passive entry sensors in the door handles lose detection while the start function -- which relies on closer proximity -- still works. Swap the battery first.

If a fresh CR2032 doesn't fix it, the issue may be with the door handle sensors or the antenna on the affected door rather than the fob. Forum threads on this generation of Pilot show occasional reports of handle sensors going intermittent, usually isolated to one door rather than all of them at once. If it's one door, suspect the hardware on that door. If all handles quit simultaneously, that points back to the fob or the antenna module. Either way, I can diagnose it on site.
