2017 Honda Pilot Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
I got a call from Bressi Ranch on a Tuesday afternoon. A home health aide had a 2017 Pilot that was still working fine, but the key shell had given up.
The loop at the top had snapped clean off, the rubber on the button pad was worn through in two spots, and she was gripping the thing like it might fall apart in her hand on the way to a patient visit.
She had already stopped at the dealer. They told her the whole key needed to be replaced, cut and programmed, the full job. She thanked them and left.
What the dealer skipped over is that the electronics inside that cracked shell were working perfectly. The circuit board, the transponder chip, the battery, all of it reading clean. The shell is just the housing. When the internals are good, you swap the guts into a new case, verify every button and the remote range, and cut a matching blade. That is the entire job.
I pulled into her driveway, popped the fob open on my kit bag right there on the hood, and moved everything over into a fresh shell. Buttons were solid, range was where it should be, the start handshake was clean. Cut the blade to match. Done in under half an hour.
She mentioned she had been putting off calling anyone because she assumed it would be the same answer as the dealer. It wasn't even close, either in time or in what she paid.
